Safety & Training Supervisor

Relentlessly drive a safety-first culture in the Elko market to provide excellent customer service to our drivers and staff, technical safety expertise, and compliance requirements to management, staff, and the driving team. Ensure every operation is run safely, comfortably, and reliably for our drivers and customers. 
  • Work with the Safety and training manager to design training courses and safety initiatives based on weekly safety checks and trends in Samsara, and leverage results to develop proactive action plans.
  • Investigate any incidents, accidents, or work-related injuries and send all accident investigation, accident reporting, accident files, videos, and photos to the Safety and Training manager.
  • Work with the Safety and Training manager and Operations manager using RCA procedures or preventability based on facts found from the accident investigation.
  • Complete post-accident re-training.
  • Deliver driver training initiatives and safety courses.
  • Create and maintain all required driver files, and work with the reno compliance team to update files.
  • Ensure all vehicles have functioning safety equipment by completing monthly audits.
  • Review samsara safety events daily, coach any drivers to correct behavior, and share behavior with the Safety and Training manager and Operations manager.

Daily: 
  • Check missing DVIR report from Samsara to Dispatch. (or create scheduled report for dispatch)
  • File the previous days' missed paper DVIR's from dispatch. These first 2 are done daily so there isn't a big stack at the end of the month to fill out, plus dispatch is doing the work so just checking it is up to date.
  • Audit cameras in Samsara & make note of any that need repaired. Repair ASAP.
  • Review action items from team meeting and start working on them. (Depending on training someone or not)
  • Check emails for any additional action items that might need to be added to the list.
  • Review Samsara Safety Inbox and schedule coaching drivers on events or assign coach for each event. Also, additional action items may need to be added for Safety/Training depending on event(s).
  • Assign training, if needed, based on safety events.
  • Check drivers score daily, and coach drivers at bottom at least every other day.
  • Usually coach events & scores in the pm before the driver's shift(whatever works best)
  • Review Fleetio dashboard for any repairs that need addressed. Schedule repairs, or if high priority, fix asap. (Cameras/gateways, Radios are high priority)
  • Update Training files and driver training tracker
  • Review/Audit online training completion
  • Ensure to schedule and complete re-certification or re-training.
  • Investigate any incidents, accidents, or work-related injuries and send all accident investigation, accident reporting, accident files, videos, and photos to the Safety and Training manager.
  • Yard Walk
 
Weekly: 
  • Ride along and/or at least 5 safety checks per week
 
Monthly Tasks:
  • Update Safety Bonus file
  • Update Training files.
  • Work on Safety Meeting Presentation: Review Goals, Samsara stats, safety concerns for meeting
  • Wednesday or Thursday- Review & Send safety message out.
  • Attend and drive monthly safety meetings with the Safety and Training manager by ensuring attendance, time, and dates are posted in the yard. 
  • Deliver driver training initiatives and safety courses.
  • Audit fire extinguishers (can be assigned)
  • Inspect the yard, facilities, and vehicles with functioning safety equipment by completing a monthly yard walk.
 
Quarterly Safety tasks: 
  • Bus book audit for all vehicles in the Elko market and ensuring any missing documentation is obtained from the compliance team. 
  • Audit all vehicle files in the office and ensure all necessary compliance documents are updated if expired. 
Attend quarterly NGM business partner safety meetings with the Safety and Training manager.
